America's brilliant Billy Horschel finished the 2nd and last play off hole with an eagle 3, to beat Rory McIlroy at Wentworth to become this years BMW PGA Champion.

After all 3 players concluded their final rounds at 20 under par, Horschel, McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence took part in a thrilling 2 hole playoff on the par five 18th hole.

Upon the first replay of the par 5, it was Lawrence who found trouble, having to play his second shot from a fairway bunker and barely missing the green into the water hazard. McIlroy and Horschel both made birdies, making it a 2 horse race in the 2nd and final play off hole.

"I'm thrilled and excited for the way I played," The 2021 past champion, Horschel said.

"At the same time I'm a little disappointed - Rory is a great friend of mine and he's a generational talent. I know how close he's been this year so I can feel for him."

"I needed a bit of luck. There was a lot of luck on my side to get this victory today."

More heartbreak for Rory as he is runner up once again, after what feels like a year full of coming up just short in the closing moments. Most recently just last week at the Irish Open.

Although frustrated, McIlroy is seemingly taking it in stride.

"Two weeks in a row I've played well, just not quite well enough. But I'm happy with where my game is and happy where it's trending."

"It just shows the standard out here. If you slip up just a little bit or don't make a birdie on a crucial hole, someone is always waiting to take advantage of that."
