This is Scheffler's fourth start at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He has seven top-10s in Texas, including a win.
2022 PGA Professional Player of the Year Michael Block, who finished T15 at last week's PGA Championship, is competing at the Charles Schwab Challenge on a sponsor exemption.
Block, the head professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, California, is making his third start of the season and 26th of his PGA TOUR career, and has also been invited to the RBC Canadian Open beginning on the 8th of June.
Viktor Hovland is coming off a T2 at last week's PGA Championship and is making his third career start at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Hovland is the only player to finish in the top 10 in each of the last three majors and is one of two players (along with Scheffler) to finish in the top 10 in each of the three 600-point FedExCup events this season.
Sam Burns defeated Scheffler in a playoff to win the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge, his fourth of five career PGA TOUR titles. Burns won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play earlier this season and seeks his second career multiple-win season on TOUR. Burns, who won the Valspar Championship back-to-back in 2021 and 2022, would become the fourth player to successfully defend a title this season with a victory.
Three of the four multiple winners on tourthis season are in the field: Scheffler, Max Homa and Tony Finau. 2016 Charles Schwab Challenge winner Jordan Spieth is making his 11th start at the event and has recorded eight top-10s, most recently finishing T7 in 2022.
Spieth holds the tournament records for scoring average (67.75) and birdies or better per round (4.30) among players with 10 or more rounds on record (1983-present). Spieth finished T29 at last week's PGA Championship in his seventh attempt to complete the Career Grand Slam.
New Zealand's Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee of Australia, both in the field, earned Special Temporary Membership on the PGA tour after last week's PGA Championship. Fox, who got into the field via the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking after the Masters Tournament, is making his eighth start of the season with his best result coming at the Arnold Palmer.
Lee has made eight starts on the season, highlighted by a T6 at The Players Championship. World No. 17 and five-time PGA tour winner Collin Morikawa is making his fourth start at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He finished runner-up in 2020, the first tournament after the tour season was suspended due to COVID-19, falling in a playoff to Daniel Berger
