Justin Thomas takes a one shot lead into the weekend at the Zozo Championship at the Sherwood Country Club in California. Thomas matched his opening round of 65 with a flawless round which included a stretch of five birdies in six holes on his first nine.
The 2017 US PGA champion leads from Dylan Frittelli of South Arica and fellow American Lanto Griffin with Patrick Cantlay and Scottie Scheffler a further shot back. The leading five players all had rounds of 65 on day two of the championship.
"Got off to a hot start today and kind of coasted coming in," said Thomas
"If you are getting the ball in play off the tee there are so many scoring clubs. You can attack it if you are really playing well."
England's Tyrrell Hatton who is on a purple patch followed up his opening 65 with a steady 68 and he sits in a tie for sixth just three shots back from Thomas. Fellow countryman Matt Fitzpatrick is one shot further back after an excellent second round of 65.
Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy recovered somewhat from his opening round woes with a round of 68 but still ists ten shots off the lead. Tiger Woods is a further two shots off Thomas's lead after shooting ten shots better than his awful opening 76.
Woods will have to wait for another day for that a record-setting 83rd PGA Tour victory and must now be focusing on defending his Masters title.
Overnight leader Sebastian Munoz shot a second round 70 which leaves him four shots back in a tie for fourteenth.
