Hideki Matsuyama Wins Genesis Invitational
Tiger Woods forced to withdraw after comeback
Hideki Matsuyama wins his ninth career PGA Tour title in his 250th start after incredible fightback in the final round.
The 2021 Masters champion, 31, started the day six shots behind leader Patrick Cantlay but finished 17 under par to claim his ninth PGA Tour title.
With nine birdies and no bogeys on the afternoon, Matsuyama posted the second-lowest round in course history and the lowest in the fourth round of a tournament at Riviera. The ninth PGA Tour victory of his career is his first since the 2022 Sony Open.
"I wasn't striking the ball really well, but my chipping and putting was working a lot this week," said Matsuyama through an interpreter after the round.
Elsewhere, Woods, who was playing in his first official PGA Tour event since last April's Masters, was only able to complete six holes in his second round.
The 48-year-old was driven off the course on a cart shortly after teeing off on the seventh hole in California.
He went to the clubhouse for two hours and was given intravenous fluids.
Woods' business partner Rob McNamara said Woods' exit was unrelated to his long-standing injury problems and was "not physical at all".
