Fowler Claims Rocket Mortgage Classic Championship

Relief for Rickie as he claims first PGA Tour title in four years

Relief as Rickie Fowler Collects First Tour Win Since 2019

Rocket Mortgage ambassador Rickie Fowler defeated Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin with a birdie on the first playoff hole to record his sixth PGA tour title, and first since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open.

Fowler finished level with his fellow American Morikawa and Canadian Hadwin on 24 under after 72 holes, but picked up his sixth tour victory by sinking a birdie putt at the first play-off hole whilst both Hadwin and Morikawa failed to match his three.

"It's hard to put it all into words," Fowler said after his victory.
Fowler came into this tournament in good form having posted a -5 in the US Open Championship, earning him a T5 finish, though lead for 3 our of the 4 days and ultimately made way for Wyndham Clark, as well as shooting -16 after four rounds which was good enough for a T13 finish at the Travelers Championship last week.

"I knew it was a matter of time with how I've been playing. I have had a couple of tough weekends when I've had a chance and I haven't made it."

Fowler took a one-shot lead into the final day after finishing his third round on with six birdies in his last eight holes, with the 34-year-old continuing to impress by birdieing the par-four third and holing from 45 feet to add another at the fifth.

Morikawa went ahead by making a 15-foot birdie at the 17th but failed to convert a birdie look at the last, seeing him set the clubhouse target, while the Canadian Hadwin joined him on 24 under after closing his bogey-free day with two birdies in the last four holes.

Fowler then made it a three-way tie when a fantastic approach from the rough at the last set up a close-range birdie, then triumphed in the play-off to claim a first victory since 2019.

Last years Rocket Mortgage Classic champion Tony Finau failed to make the the -4 cut after the second round, finishing on -1, a disappointing defence of his title.

England's Aaron Rai dropped into a share of ninth after a one-under 71, with fellow Europeans Alex Noren and Stephan Jaeger also ending on 18 under, as Max Homa fired a hole-in-one at the par-three 15th on his way to a final-round 67 and tied-21st place.

Next on the PGA Tour schedule is the John Deere Classic held in Silvis, Illinois, posting a total prize pot of $7.4 million, with $1.3 million heading to the winner.
