Jeunghun Wang leads in Qatar

By three shots

Jeunghun Wang has opened up a three–shot lead on moving day at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, so it's all change at the top after yesterday's nine–way tie.

The South Korean picked up five shots in his first 11 holes to get to 13 under. A missed eagle putt on the ninth gave him a tap–in birdie and he then chipped in on the tenth before holing a 20-footer on the 11th to take charge. Birdies on the 16th and 18th saw him home with a 65, and a three shot lead from the chasing pack.

Rafa Cabrera Bello, Nathan Kimsey and Joakim Lagergren were already in the clubhouse at ten under, with Jaco Van Zyl and Andy Sullivan also at 10 under at the turn.

Nathan Kimsey opened with a birdie and added another on the fourth before he knocked in three in a row to take the early lead.

If you are not familiar with the work of Nathan Kimsey, he's a 23–year old Englishman, who has been plying his trade on the Challenge Tour since turning Pro in 2013 with a handicap of +5.

He's ranked 1471 in the Official Golf World Rankings, and to date his biggest win is €16,000, which he got for coming first at Q School at the PGA La Catalunya in November 2016.

And for a while it looked like he was going to carry through that momentum when a birdie on the 14th gave him a two shot lead. But a dropped shot at the 15th took him off the top, although he responded well with another birdie on the 16th. He carded a 66 and is sitting T5 in a group of five, including Andy Sullivan.

Sullivan bogeyed the first but hit an incredible flop shot on the sixth for a birdie and, while he bogeyed the next, he went birdie–eagle round the turn to keep in contention. He ended up shooting a 70, but he’s by no means out of it yet.

"I just tried to force it a little bit a couple of times with putts and ended up three-putting. On the whole, I'm pretty happy with two under” said Sullivan.

”Not quite as sharp as the first two days. Hopefully I'll go out there tomorrow and find some fireworks and get up the leaderboard early. Five behind the lead, I'm still sitting there. So anything can happen tomorrow and I'll try and chase him down."

Ignacio Elvira Mijares and Jaco Van Zyl are two shots off the leader, and with seven players within 5 shots of the lead, this could still go any way.
