Rory spotted back with a Scotty

Nike fallout gathers pace...

Well that didn’t take long. Just a few weeks after Nike announced they were pulling out of golf equipment, Rory McIlroy has been spotted testing a Scotty Cameron on the practice green at The Barclays. And he wasn’t the only Nike staff player trying something new. Brooks Koepka was also seen putting with his old Titleist Scotty Cameron too.

McIlroy’s putting has been questioned a lot over the past year, and while many fans want to see him go back and work with Dave Stockton, I always feel like a putter change is as good as a rest.

On the practice green at the Barclays he’s been spotted putting with a mallet putter similar to the Scotty Cameron Fastback he used back in 2009 and 2010. He’s also been spotted testing a Newport 2 putter, more along the lines of the Method Origin he’s been rolling.

Koepka has also been quick to make a switch, and he’s been seen using the Scotty Cameron T10 Buttonback putter he used before switching to Nike.

Nike have been pretty strict on players using all 14 clubs with a swoosh on them, so it’s interesting to see their top guys switch putters at the first possible opportunity. They don’t tee off until Thursday at Bethpage, but these Nike players look to be switching out their equipment pretty quickly. Once the Ryder Cup is out of the way we’d be surprised if anyone is still playing a Nike club for the start of the 2017 season – which starts in October…
