Words: John Dean
Sports fans from around Europe can combine golf and football thanks to the return of ORIZONTE - Lisbon Golf's successful ‘Derby & Golf Weekend' package.
This is the fourth year running the popular deal has been on offer and gives the opportunity to play two rounds of golf near the Portuguese capital and a ticket to the Derby de Lisboa between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.
It is one of the oldest and fiercest derbies in European football, which dates back to 1907 and takes place at Sporting's Estádio José Alvalade stadium in the city on April 23, 2017.
You’ll experience an incredible atmosphere inside the 50,000 capacity ground as the hosts will be out to try to put a massive dent in bitter rivals' Benfica's Primeira Liga title hopes.
As well as the derby clash, the break offers 18 holes of golf at two of the most prestigious courses in Lisbon's Costa Azul region - Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club and Aroeira.
Quinta do Peru is a European top 100 venue, while Aroeira cemented its position as one of Europe's leading golf venues after being included in Golf World magazine's inaugural list of the ‘Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe'.
Three nights' bed and breakfast accommodation - from April 21 to 24 –is at the Sana Malhoa Hotel in Lisbon with transfers to golf courses included and based on sharing a twin or double room.
