Xander Schauffele wins The Open 2024

'To have two is something else' - As he wins his 2nd major of the year

'Something i've dreamed of' - Schauffele kisses the claret jug

A season of American dominated major championships, sees Xander Schauffele close out the final major of the year at Royal Troon. He wins his 2nd major of the year, prevailing through wind, rain and some of the toughest links golf you will see at The 152nd Open.

The 2024 Champion Golfer of the year, Xander Schauffele has now won The Open and the US PGA Championship in the same year, the first player to win two majors in one year since Brooks Koepka in 2018.

Holding off strong challenges from 2nd place finishers Billy Horschel and playing partner Justin Rose, Schauffele shot a classy 6 under for the day, finishing his 72 holes with a 2 shot lead at 9 under par.

"The dream's been alive all week and I did an awesome job" states Justin Rose after what has been a valiant effort at The 152nd Open. He had to do it the hard way after coming through traditional Open qualification this year in Somerset.

Rose still seeks his 2nd major win at the age of 43, he briefly held the lead standing on the 8th tee until a dominant display saw Xander respond with a flurry of 5 birdies in the next 9 holes.

A round of ups and downs, West Ham super fan and Saturday's overnight leader Billy Horschel birdied the last 3 holes to shoot a final day 68.

“Hearing your name called with Open champion after it is something I've dreamed of for a very long time,” Schauffele said during the trophy presentation.

"I actually watched the highlights of Phil and Henrik (reminiscing Stenson's win in 2016) to motivate myself for this week and I guess that paid off pretty nice."

Claiming the title at this years Open Championship brings about the end to the American dominated season of majors, Xander will be looking forward and hoping to carry on this form as golf returns to the 2024 Paris Olympic games.

He of course won gold back at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, played in 2021 behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
