DeChambeau, Scheffler, Homa lead after Round 2
Highest Cut Line (+6) since 2018
Bryson Dechambeau, Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa (-6) are the American trio atop the leaderboard following a second blustury afternoon at Augusta National. Conditions were challenging for all, with forceful, gusting winds causing balls to move on greens, sand to be blown from bunkers and a generally cumbersome pace of play.
Opening round leader DeChambeau shot 73, Scheffler battled his way to a level-par 72 while Homa was one of just eight to break par as he carded a 71. Nicolai Hojgaard sits 4th, one of 20 Masters debutants aiming for the first rookie win since Fuzzy Zoeller back in 1979. The only man to score in the 60's was first-time competitor Ludvig Aberg (69) who surges into 7th place at -2.
Tiger Woods registered his 24th consecutive cut to break the all-time record; putting his battered chassis through 23 holes; driven by the belief that another Augusta triumph is possible '"if everything comes together" and insisting that "anyone who makes the weekend has a chance".
Tommy Fleetwood and Danny Willett are 5 strokes back of the lead at -1, while Rory McIlroy will go into the weekend 10 back after posting 77. Defending champion Jon Rahm squeezes into the weekend after "fighting all day" for his 76, one inside the cut.
Notable players missing the weekend include Justin Thomas (+7), Sungjae Im (+7), Wyndham Clark (+7), Victor Hovland (+8), Jordan Spieth (+9), Brian Harman (+9), Sam Burns (+9) and Dustin Johnson (+13).
Majors currently provide the only real stage for opposite sides in golf's ongoing civil war, with the weekend looking like providing a show-down between PGA stars Scheffler and Homa and Saudi-backed LIV Golf's DeChambeau. 13 LIV Golf stars tee'd it up at but 5 of those saw their week end at the halfway point, leaving Cam Smith (-1), Patrick Reed (E), Tyrell Hatton (+1), Brooks Koepka (+2), Phil Mickelson (+4), Joaquin Niemann (+4), Jon Rahm (+5) vs the establishment over the weekend.
Saturday's Round 3 tees off at 09.35EDT / 14:35GMT and can be watched in the UK on Sky Sports Golf.
