The longest day 2019!
Golfers have so far raised over £10m for Macmillan!
Words: Golf Punk
GolfPunk have long been supporters of the Longest Day challenge. This year, once again, we are looking forward to putting together our motley band of reprobates to test our aging bodies to the maximum in support of Macmillan Cancer Support (more on our caper to follow!).
Since 2002, golfers have raised over £10 million to support this wonderful charity which offers emotional, physical and financial support to those diagnosed with cancer. GolfPunk want to continue that amazing effort by doing the challenge themselves and getting our GolfPunks to join in!
WHAT THE CHALLENGE IS ABOUT
It’s a golf challenge (obvs!) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. A team of four players (or more) takes on four rounds of golf in one day, which is over 20 miles of walking, and asks friends and family to sponsor them to do it.
WHAT IT INVOLVES
Given that you have 4 rounds to do we recommend (from hard earned experience) that you do it on or around the longest day (21st June in UK), hence the name of the challenge and that you get going pretty early!
Team GP will be teeing off at as close to dawn as possible and will try to do the first two rounds as swiftly as possible, to allow for short break before we set off in our quest to reach that final 72nd hole!
WHAT IT’S FOR
Macmillan provides vital physical, financial and emotional support to people with cancer when it’s needed most. They help with decisions around treatment, help with money and work matters, and provide reassurance for people and their families.
Just one example of why you should do it!
HOW DO YOU FUNDRAISE
By setting up an online team page on the website here.
We can’t wait to assemble the crack GolfPunk squad to take on this mammoth, amazing and worthwhile challenge and will update live on the day so if you want to tag or send pictures to share on Instagram or Twitter please do so along with the hashtag #LongestDayGolf and we will share with your fellow GolfPunks and Macmillan.
And remember as a wise old fellow once said...
“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”
After all its for an amazing cause!
And another thing....
