Stacey Lewis, a twice major winner and a veteran of four Solheim Cups was the surprise omission from Pat Hurst's picks for the team to represent the USA at the Inverness Club.
Stacey Lewis who had slipped down the rankings
Lewis had played a role in the Solheim Cup going to Toledo and was fancied by many to play despite not securing one of the automatic qualifying positions. Instead, Lewis will be an assistant captain of Team USA. However, the U.S. captain Pat Hurst overlooked the home town player selecting Brittany Altomare, Mina Harigae as her three picks. Team USA Brittany Altomare Austin Ernst Ally Ewing Mina Harigae Danielle Kang Megan Khang Jessica Korda Nelly Korda Jennifer Kupcho Yealimi Noh Lizette Salas Lexi Thompson โIt was a little tough but I also didnโt play well enough,โ said Lewis after hearing of her exclusion from the event. "I mean, if you want to be on the team, you canโt rely on a pick. I knew I didnโt play the way I wanted to, but to still just to be a part of it is going to be so cool in Toledo " "This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I'm very happy to have Brittany, Mina and Yealimi as my picks for Team USA," Hurst said. The selection of Mina Harigae who is only 65th in the world may raise a few eyebrows. Harigae is definitely in good form but it might have served Team USA better to have had a hardened Solheim Cup player like Lewis or even Angela Stanford.
