The European Tour and PGA TOUR today announced a Strategic Alliance but it begs the question as to what were the drivers behind this partnership. The PGA Tour is acquiring a minority stake in the European Tour Productions, the European Tour’s Media Production company and so perhaps cash is the driver. This time last year it was not looking particularly rosy for the golf industry in the UK. Participation figures for golf had risen slightly but the outlook for many clubs up and down the land was bleak. Membership figures were falling and there was a trend forming as the body of nomadic golfers rose.

I’ve been golfing since, well let’s not go there but trust me it’s a long time. Over the years I have had all those favourite golf themed birthday cards umpteen times – especially the one where the frogs gather by the hole to avoid the ball from the guy hitting over the water to the green! I have also had a number of those golfing gifts which go in the cupboard and never see the light of day.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday confirmed the news we had all been praying for – golf is back from 2 December! Boris stated that when the four-week national lockdown due to coronavirus comes to an end, outdoor sports will be allowed once again. "I can confirm the national restrictions in England will end on the 2 December and they will not be renewed," said Johnson.

Dustin Johnson and model girlfriend Paulina Gretzky jetted off for a family holiday following the big man’s win at Augusta. Paulina had been supporting her man at the last major of the year and Dustin loved having her there. "Having Paulina there was awesome. It was a lot of fun.
