Like father like son, eh? Charlie Woods, the seven year old son of Tiger & Elin showed his dad a thing or two about climbing the leaderboard at a junior tournament in West Palm Beach, Fl.
Charlie finished tied second at his junior golf tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, which is near Tiger's house in Jupiter Island. Charlie shot +19 over the nine holes.
Tiger has spoken about Charlie's golf prowess before, notably at the Memorial Tournament press conference a year ago. Tiger said that Charlie, then six, had a very decent swing.
“He’s got some parts in his swing that I’m trying to do,” said Tiger. “It’s a little frustrating at times.”
The innocence of youth eh? Probably seems totally straightforward and easy to Woodsy Junior. And Tiger has been teaching Charlie the same way as his own dad, Earl, did with Tiger.
“When I played, I was so little" said Tiger. "A par-4 is not a par-4. So my dad created my own par. So every time I would play the hole, whatever shots it took me to get to the green, reasonably, plus two. So sometimes it was a par- 12.
“And that’s what I do with Charlie…It’s about them enjoying the attention that it takes to try to get to par…What my dad did was genius because it kept me interested. It kept me focused on, my dad shot 2-over and I shot three, and I almost beat him. Even though I was making 11 and 12 on holes, but in relation that’s about right.”
Hang on, that gives us an idea. Maybe we should play like that too? I mean, those guys at the club have got some attitude telling us what is and isn't a par. Thanks Tiger, I'm going out to shoot five under, no matter what happens.
Here's Charlie's scorecard:
