Rory McIlroy confirmed for US Open

And his next shot at another major

Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he will play the US Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, despite concerns about a persistent rib injury.

“I am ready for Erin Hills and looking forward to playing there for the first time. The last few weeks have obviously been frustrating. I never like to miss events either on the PGA Tour or European Tour but it was important I got back to a level of fitness where I felt like I could give myself the best possible chance at the US Open,” said McIlroy.

McIlroy hasn’t played since The Players tournament last month, and has since been undergoing a recuperation programme at La Quinta resort in Portugal.

McIlroy missed has therefore missed both the BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour and the Memorial tournament on the US Tour.

“As I have said many times before, Majors will ultimately determine my golf career but I have had the rest of this busy season to consider as well,” explained McIlroy for missing the two events.

McIlroy, who won the US Open at Congressional in 2011, will now have had a five week break since the Players, and will be well rested as he begins his challenge for another major.
