Henrik Stenson's Open home burgled

During his first round at Birkdale

Henrik Stenson’s rented home for the Open Championship was ransacked by burglars as he took to the course to complete his first round at Royal Birkdale.

The defending champion was informed about the news after he completed his round. The thieves took almost everything including the clothes that he was preparing to wear for the next day. Stenson had to contact his sponsors in order to get some new threads for the second round.

Despite all of this, the Iceman won’t let it dampen his spirit at the Open Championship.

A defiant Stenson said: “It is obviously very special for me to be playing here in front of the fantastic Birkdale crowds as the defending Open Champion so I am going to try not to let this spoil the week in any way.”

“As many of you know the Claret Jug was returned to the R&A on Monday but unfortunately, along with some valuable personal items, they have taken all of my clothing for the week.”

Thankfully no one was in the house at the time of the crime.
