England's Matt Wallace birdied four of his last six holes to win the Corales Puntacana Championship by a shot from Nicolai Hojgaard of Denmark. The 32-year-old finished on nineteen-under-par, with Hojgaard claiming sole ownership of second place.
The Dane had the chance to force a playoff with a twenty-foot birdie putt on the last but missed to give Wallace a one-stroke victory.
Wallace closed with a six-under final-round of 66 to claim his first PGA Tour victory and first win since winning the Made in Denmark event on the DP World Tour in 2018.
Wallace will now have eyes on the Ryder Cup in September as the win in the Dominican Republic moves him up to 22nd in the World standings of European qualification. European captain Luke Donald will now have Wallace on his radar, given that he will have six captain's picks.
Wallace had fallen outside the world's top 200 after struggling with his game. However, the man from England has found form recently and the win has moved him up to number 117 in the World Golf rankings.
"Very happy," Wallace said. "Down those last few holes I knew I could do it. I played great all week. Just came out on top, so very lucky. This is cool."
