Gareth Bale Tees Up New Role In Golf
Joins Steph Curry's UNDERRATED Tour In Ambassador Role
Gareth Bale has joined Steph Curry's UNDERRATED Golf as an ambassador for its inaugural European Tour.
“My role as an ambassador allows me to fuse my enthusiasm for the sport with my passion for creating multi-faced sports opportunities for youth within Wales, and I look forward to seeing the young athletes’ skills when they step out on the greens at Walton Heath this May," Bale said.
After his hobby caused controversy towards the end of his time at Real Madrid, Bale has doubled down on his love for the game. Ahead of retirement, he became a global ambassador for the R&A, and is frequently seen in the field at pro-ams such as the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Launched in 2022 by NBA basketball icon Steph Curry, the UNDERRATED Golf Tour provides opportunities for young golfers to compete at top-tier courses in an inclusive environment. 10 tournaments were played nationwide in the US over the last two years and it now rolls out across Europe to provide access and opportunities to junior golfers and shop-windowing them to elite college recruiters.
“We are thrilled to be expanding the UNDERRATED Golf Tour brand to London.... It’s time that we level the playing field, and ensure these student athletes throughout Europe have the critical tools and skills for a successful and sustainable future.” said Curry.
The top three boy and girl winners from the 2023 Curry Cup have been invited to play at Walton Heath Golf Club for the UNDERRATED Golf European Tour’s opening tournament. Additionally, the top boy and girl winners from the London tournament will be automatically eligible for the 2024 Curry Cup.
The Tour's first scheduled UK event takes place at Walton Heath Golf Club, Surrey over May 29-31.
