FedEx St. Jude Championship 2023

As the PGA season winds down, all eyes are on the FedEx St. Jude Championship this weekend. For the first time, the field has been limited to just 70 players, meaning only the best of the best on this year’s tour are able to participate. Of course, those 70 players are all hoping to be among the top 50 points leaders by the end of the tournament so they can advance to the BMW Championship. That adds a new wrinkle to the St. Jude Championship this weekend.
For golf fans who have an interest in betting on the St. Jude Championship, PayPal adds an interesting wrinkle. PayPal can be the perfect intermediary between an online sportsbook and a bank account. Fortunately, most prominent sportsbooks are PayPal betting sites that allow users to link their PayPal account with their sportsbook account. Once all of that is taken care of, here are the golfers to keep an eye on as serious contenders to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler is currently the world’s no. 1 ranked golfer, making him an obvious favorite at the St. Jude Championship. He’s spent most of the last year and a half at the top of the golf world despite having just one major win on his resume. Scheffler is currently second on the FedExCup Points list, so he knows a win this weekend could help push him to the top. However, the last time Scheffler played, he finished a disappointing 23rd at The Open Championship. He also missed the cut at the 2022 St. Jude Championship, so he heads into this tournament with a lot to prove.
Rory McIlroy
Much like Scheffler, McIlroy missed the cut at this tournament a year ago. However, he’s still the reigning FedEx Cup Champion, winning for the third time in 2022. Outside of Scheffler, McIlroy is the top favorite to triumph at the St. Jude Championship this weekend. He comes into the tournament coming off seven straight top-10 finishes, so the Northern Irishman is certainly trending in the right direction.
Jon Rahm
In terms of betting odds heading into the St. Jude Championship, Rahm isn’t too far behind Scheffler and McIlroy. The Spaniard has arguably been the top golfer on the PGA Tour this year, earning four victories, including The Masters. On the back of that win at Augusta earlier this year, Rahm is the FedExCup Points List leader. He knows that if he can win this tournament, he’ll be tough to catch and will have a chance to win his first FedExCup. After finishing tied for second in The Open at his last tournament, Rahm also has a lot of momentum carrying him into the St. Jude Championship.
Xander Schauffele
On paper, Schauffele appears to be a serious contender for the St. Jude Championship. He’s been one of the best performers on the tour this year who is yet to win a tournament. It’s possible that Schauffele is saving his first win for the end of the season. He’s currently the active leader in consecutive cuts made at 30, so the consistency has certainly been there. However, Schauffele has had trouble at TPC Southwind in Memphis, where the tournament is being hosted. He’s never finished better than 27th in five previous events at this course. Unless Schauffele can change that history, he could have a hard time winning the St. Jude Championship.
