2022 Masters Preview
Who is looking good ahead of the first Major
With the 2022 Masters just a few short weeks away, now is a good time to take a look at the competition in detail and try to identify which golfer is best positioned to take the prestigious green jacket.
2022 Masters one of the world’s biggest sporting events
The major is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, let alone just in the world of golf, with millions of people tuning in and watching the action unfold at Augusta, Georgia in April each year.
Perhaps one of the reasons why so many regularly watch is because of the iconic green jacket handed to the winning player at the end of the tournament by the defending champion.
Hideki Matsuyama won the 2021 Masters and will be looking to defend his crown this year and look to become one of a few players who have been able to win the competition multiple times; a list that includes iconic names such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson!
We take a look at the upcoming 2022 Masters event and explain why so many consider it to be one of the most prestigious tournaments in the entire sporting world!
What can be expected from the 2022 Masters?
This year’s Masters will take place in a couple of weeks, with players teeing off on Thursday, April 7, 2022, for the first of two rounds of 18-hole competitive golf across Thursday and Friday.
The leading 50 players and ties will make the cut and play on Saturday and Sunday as they look to try and win the championship and that iconic green jacket. Also, let’s not forget that there is a purse of $11.5 million on offer, with the winner able to take home a cool $2.07 million!
The legendary Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, is the venue for the competition with only World War II preventing the event from taking place. The golf course is one of the most famous in the world and it is incredibly challenging for even the best golfers on the planet. The course is well bunkered with water a feature on many holes. The famous stretch of the 11th, 12th, and 13th holes known as Amen Corner are notoriously difficult, with water coming into play on all three holes.

Tournament organisers have looked to challenge golfers further in recent years as they have made slight adjustments to the layout of the course. An example is the 5th, with the hole having been lengthened in distance in 2019 to 495 yards (an increase of around 40 yards) it remains a par four and statistically one of the hardest holes on the course.
Augusta National Golf Club poses the World's best golfers a unique challenge, with a history of meltdowns and surprises having an impact on those who look to place a sports wager on the action.
As online gambling in the USA continues to spread across, in recent years, punters are now able to choose from an array of the best platforms that have been made available to them, where they are able to acquire some rather healthy bonuses and promotional codes that can help to enhance their experiences.
Naturally, one of the main ways in which they will be able to enhance their experiences when wagering, though, is to perhaps have an insight regarding what to expect when the elite sportsmen take to the course and tee off and knowing who the favourites are to obtain the prestigious green jacket.
Which golfers are the favourites?
Unsurprisingly, there are a number of sportsbooks that are already providing punters with the opportunity to place future bets on who might be the winner of the 2022 Masters, and with just a few weeks until the main event, there are certain names that appear to be more favoured than others.
There are big events leading up to Augusta, with the main one being The Players Championship. Such events can be a great way of assessing form and highlighting positives or negatives about each player’s game.
Currently, Spaniard Jon Rahm appears to be the overriding favourite for many for this year’s Masters, with the world No. 1 widely tipped to follow up his success in the 2021 U.S. Open and acquire his second major.
It should be noted that his best finish in the Masters was back in 2018 when he finished fourth. However, he can ill-afford to make the mistakes he has made in recent tournaments if he is to win.
For those betting against Rahm being able to live up to expectations then Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, and Jordan Spieth come into the frame. Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas are also highly fancied and those that believe Matsuyama will repeat his historic feat from 12 months ago will find there are some attractive longer odds.
Of the favourites to win the 2022 Masters, only Johnson and Spieth have experienced are past winners, with the former winning in 2020 whilst the latter picking up his green jacket in 2015 when he was just 21 years old; making him the second-youngest player to win the Masters.
