For British Par 3 Championship
Words: GolfPunk
This year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship is now just a month away, with more professionals and celebrity players being announced all the time. BBC Sport and news presenter Dan Walker, former Scotland boss Gordon Strachan OBE and ex-British Grand Prix champion turned Sky Sports Formula 1 pundit, Johnny Herbert, have now all been confirmed for the Championship.
The stars will be taking part in the Celeb-Ams which take place on Tuesday 7 August and Friday 10 August, which see a whole host of famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment take part.
Dan Walker is perhaps best known for his work as one of BBC Sport’s main television presenters. Starting out on regional radio after graduating from university, Dan became known to mainstream audiences in 2009 when he took over the role as presenter on long-standing football programme Football Focus. From here, he has seen his career go from strength to strength and has also presented a wide range of live sporting coverage including Wimbledon, The Open and Royal Ascot. Most recently Dan has been in Russia presenting the World Cup. Not only is Dan a fantastic sport presenter, but in 2016 he was announced as the new presenter on BBC News morning show BBC Breakfast. A keen golf fan, Dan returns to the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship after playing the event last year.
From lighting up the football pitch with Manchester United and Leeds, to managing his country, Gordon Strachan OBE has made an impact in the world of football for over four decades. Starting his football career with Dundee in the 70s, he is perhaps best known for being a key member of the Leeds United team that won the 1992 league title. He also represented Scotland on 50 occasions including at two World Cups. As a manager he has been prowling dugouts for 20 years with the likes of Coventry, Celtic and most recently, the Scottish national team.
Another star name who will be taking on the Cromwell Course this year is former British Formula 1 driver, Johnny Herbert. The three-time Grand Prix winner is best known for winning the 1995 British Grand Prix, and as well his success in Formula 1 Johnny has triumphed in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Johnny can now be found working as a pundit on Sky Sports F1’s coverage of the latest Formula 1 season, offering his expert insight on all the races.
Dan, Gordon and Johnny join the likes of England rugby hero Mike Tindall MBE, Harry Potter stars James and Oliver Phelps, former Wales striker John Hartson and Irish boyband star Brian McFadden at the event.
Europe’s most successful Ryder Cup captain, Tony Jacklin CBE, is the event host for the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship and discussed the latest celebrity additions. He said: “Each year we welcome numerous celebrities to Nailcote Hall, and this year we are delighted to see Dan, Gordon and Johnny return. They are all big names in broadcasting and Johnny is a legend in motor sport and I cannot wait to see them in action.”
