Tiger Woods spotted practising with TaylorMade mallet putter

Could this be the change that sorts out his putting?

Tiger Woods has been spotted working with a TaylorMade mallet putter in the lead into the Quicken Loans National.

This will be Tiger’s last event before he flies over the 147th Open at Carnoustie next month, and he will want to show a bit of form before he faces the challenge of a Major on a notoriously demanding course, with the hardest finish in Open golf.

Putting has been the real weakness in Tiger’s game of late - he finished 2nd to last in strokes gained: putting at the recent Memorial.

But here’s hoping that a switch to a mallet putter will have a positive impact on his game, and allow him to properly compete again.

His return to Open golf will be a major boost to the R&A, and will pull in the crowds to Carnoustie, which is not the most accessible of venues.

This will be Tiger’s 20th Open, and his third outing at Carnoustie.

Woods won his first Open in 2000 at St Andrews and did so again at St Andrews in 2005. He successfully defended the Claret Jug at Royal Liverpool in 2006, which remains his last win at The Open.
