The strange incident of the earplug and the golf ball

A member of the gallery at Quail Hollow tossed a golf ball with an earplug attached at Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler while the pair was on the tee at No. 6. The thrower was escorted out of the tournament.

“Just it was one of those things,” McIlroy told reporters afterwards. “It was a golf ball with an ear plug stuck on it, so it was sort of strange. Charlotte’s Finest sorted it out and got him off the property, thankfully.”

“So random,” Fowler said. “The guy tried to say it was a gift. I don’t know why you would give a gift of a golf ball with an earplug attached to it.”

We can't find a picture of the offending item, and cannot even fathom why you would be carrying either article on your personage to watch a golf tournament. The guy was clearly a sandwedge short of a full set.
