Shane Lowry wins shot of the year

European Tour Fans decide

Shane Lowry's miracle wedge shot on the final hole of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational has been named 2015 European Tour Shot of the Year presented by Emirates.

My European Tour fans were voting throughout December and nearly a quarter of all votes were for Lowry's winning shot at Firestone Country Club.

The Irishman overcame competition from the likes of Rory McIlroy, Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Patrick Reed to win the award.

"It's a huge honour to win European Tour Shot of the Year, it's a shot I will never forget." Lowry told us. "Thanks to everyone who voted. I'm looking forward to another great season in 2016. I can't wait to get back to competitive golf next week in Malaysia when I represent Europe in the EurAsia Cup.'

The shot earned the 28 year old his first WGC title. He arrived at the final hole with a one shot lead but pulled his tee shot into the left rough. Lowry was left with 127 yards to pin but plenty of trouble in front of him.

"It was actually a pretty horrific lie." he said.

"It was sitting down in a hole. It was almost like someone had stood on it, but it was where the crowd was walking. And I just said to Dermot, I'll try and hit sand wedge and just get it down to the front of the green. I pulled it a bit too low and went into the tree."

"The rest is history."

Congratulations to Shane – a worthy winner.
