At Quicken Loans & French Open
Words: GolfPunk
It was an excellent weekend for Martin Laird, as his third place at the Quicken Loans National earned him a handsome $482,800 and a place in The Open.
Kyle Stanley claimed a spot by being the outright winner, but Charles Howell III and Sung Kang also claimed their berths.
Meanwhile there were three further spots available to players at the French Open who were not already exempt.
These went to American Peter Uihlein, who finished a shot behind Tommy Fleetwood.
Alexander Bjork and Mike Lorenzo-Vera came T3 with birdies on the last, and were also rewarded with their maiden appearances in a major championship.
"I'm very excited about that," Bjork said. "It's been like a dream since I was a little kid to start in a Major, especially the Open, which is Europe's major. So I really look forward to playing there.
"No expectations. Just go in there and try to have fun and I'm sure it will be fun."
Three spots are also on offer at the Irish Open and four will be available at the Greenbrier Classic.
Finally, there are 15 places that can be won from Open Final Qualifying, which takes place across five venues on Tuesday, with further places available at the Scottish Open and John Deere Classic.
