Royal Dornoch Visitors tee up £20,000

International golfers drawn to Royal Dornoch’s famous links have helped provide a £20,000 cash boost to a number of the club’s neighbours.

A community fund set up three years ago to support local groups, using a percentage of the net green fee income from visiting players, reached the milestone figure at the end of 2017.

Royal Dornoch Golf Club is now looking for the first applications of 2018 to the fund, which assisted a wide range of organisations, from youth groups to sports clubs and a dementia café, in the last round of awards.

Neil Hampton, Royal Dornoch Golf Club’s general manager, said: “Reaching the £20,000 donations mark demonstrates that the community fund has been extremely successful in supporting a wide variety of local causes.

“We are keen to continue to support the work of as many community organisations as possible and would encourage new applications to the fund.

“The club takes its role in the community very seriously and we welcome the opportunity to be able to assist in this way.”   

Applications for funding should be sent, no later than Friday, 16 March 2018, to Neil Hampton at Royal Dornoch Club Golf, Golf Rd, Dornoch IV25 3LW or neil@royaldornoch.com

Applicants should provide details about their organisation, what the funding will be used for and how it will benefit their work and the area.

The overriding criterion is that awards must be used for the purpose of contributing to the common good of the local community.

The fund is controlled by Royal Dornoch’s Council of Management. Organisations based within the IV25 postcode can apply for donations of up to £500 with payments determined by a committee comprising three past club captains and two representatives from Dornoch Area Community Council. Organisations can apply for more than one project.

The most recent groups to benefit include the Dornoch Youth Café, Dornoch & District Angling Association, Dornoch Academy Duke of Edinburgh Gold pupils, Embo Football Club, Alzheimer Scotland Dornoch Dementia Café, Dornoch Brig, Dornoch Flowers & Fairs, Dornoch Area Community Council, Historylinks, St Finnbarr’s Church Charity Shop and Enlightening Youth Group.
