Rory McIlroy has confirmed that he intends to play in five more events this year before taking an extended break to recovery from his long standing rib injury.
McIlroy intends to play in all four FedEx play-off events over the next month, and will then compete in the Dunhill Links event in Scotland.
This week's Northern Trust Open is the first event, as McIlroy aims to defend his title.
"I'm OK to play these next four out of five weeks," McIlroy told ESPN.
"But then I do need a prolonged break at some point in 2017 to be ready for 2018."
McIlroy had originally said he that he would not compete again in 2017, after a dissappointing finish at the USPGA, but last Friday confirmed his intention to attempt to defend his FedEx Cup title.
The Dunhill Cup attendance is a bit of a bonus on top, and will allow his UK fans a glimpse of him on home soil.
