Rory is back with the programme, and has burnt it up on day three at the WGC Cadillac on Donald Trump’s Blue Monster. And his putting is making the difference.
Rory shot a four under 68 to take a three shot lead into the final day over Adam Scott and Dustin Johnson. He shot 33 going out, and 35 coming back in, with four birdies and no dropped shots: that’s more like it!
He only needed 13 putts on his front nine, as he had three birdies. It was a very tidy piece of work indeed, and kept up the momentum he had created for himself on Friday.
He had a good up and down from a greenside bunker on the first, birdied again on the par four fifth, and birdied again on the eighth, even though he found two bunkers en route.
A recently resurgent Adam Scott could only shoot a plus one 73 in a round of three bogeys and two birdies, whilst defending champion Dustin Johnson shot a one under seventy-one.
Rickie Fowler had a bad go early in his round, with a quadruple-bogey eight on the par four third. Ouch! He found water off the tee, and could not get up and down from a greenside bunker. But he steadied the ship with three birdies from the tenth to finish the day in tenth place, five shots behind the leader, Rory McIlroy.
