Rickie Fowler shoots an incredible 61
To win the Hero Challenge by four shots
Words: GolfPunk
What a day at the Hero Challenge! Rickie Fowler wandered right into 'the zone' to shoot a 61 and win by four shots over Charley Hoffman. Incredible stuff!
He completed his front nine in an amazing 28, with eight – that is correct – eight birdies and a singel par. Kid Rick on fire!
You can't shoot a front nine like that without being totally conscious that you must be knocking on the door of a 59, so the back nine was going to be that much tougher from a psychological point of view. How do you keep your focus, without tightening up on yourself?
Rickie started his back nine with a par, but he was back in birdie land on the 11th. A par on the 12th, and then it was time for anothe birdie on the 13th.
Par again on the 14th, but then Rickie was straight back for yet another birdie on the 15th.
Onto the 16th and 17th, and two more pars. It looks like he is just going to miss out on the magic number.
Waht can he do on the par four 18th? If only it were a par 5!
But it was not to be:
Rickie carded a scintillating eleven under 61 to win the Hero Challenge by four clear shots over Charley Hoffman. I need a lie down after that. Fantastic, supberb.
Personal best, tournament record, course record! Hats off to you Rickie.
