Reward for Salmon Savers

Greenkeeping staff who rescued salmon from bunker given fish reward

Associated Seafoods has rewarded greenkeeping staff at an Aberdeen golf course with premium Scottish smoked salmon in recognition of their rescue of a wild salmon that had become trapped in a bunker following recent floods.

Greenkeeper Dylan Meinen of Peterculter Golf Club discovered the stranded salmon, which had come from the nearby River Dee, in a receding pool in the sand bunker following the deluge of rain during Storm Desmond.

Golf club manager Paul Sharp quickly arrived on the scene and managed to catch the fish and release it safely back into the river.

A video posted online of the trapped salmon attracted worldwide interest.

Henry Angus, commercial director of Associated Seafoods, said: ‘It was a fantastic effort by the staff at Peterculter Golf Club to save the fish, especially since our wild salmon stocks are so precious.

‘This is why we thought it would be great to reward them with some of our delicious smoked salmon, which has been farmed in Scotland by the Scottish Salmon Company.’

Sharp said: ‘We have been amazed at the huge global interest in this rescue and are delighted at receiving this smoked salmon from Associated Seafoods.’

Good wild salmon saving work we say.
