Merritt held his nerve, shooting 3 Birdies on the outward nine, and two on the back nine. He dropped a single shot on the Par 4 12, and was never really pressured by Rickie. The maiden win saw him pick up a $1.2million cheque, to bring his two season total earnings to $3,780,164.
"When it happens, you're not thinking," Merritt said of his victory. "You really don't even know what your name is."
Rickie Fowler’s 69 included 3 dropped shots on the opening nine, redeemed in part by 2 Birdies. 5 Birdies on the back nine were undermined by two further dropped shots, so he could not catch Merritt or really apply significant pressure.
Justin Rose was among six players tied fourth, shooting a one-under 70 to finish 12 under.
Tiger Woods finished his tournament with a 68 to end eight under, and tie for 18th place. 6 Birdies were offset by three dropped shots, all of which were on the back nine. He shot sub 70 in three out of four rounds, which must give him some cause for comfort.
