Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey was arrested as part of a prostitution sting in Central Florida. Gainey has been a pro golfer since 1997 and joined the PGA Tour in 2008, where he became famous for wearing gloves on both hands when playing.
According to officials, Gainey was arrested during a sting operation dubbed “Operation Santa’s Naughty List, using undercover detectives to target prostitution, human trafficking and child predators. The forty-four year old from South Carolina is facing a 1st-degree misdemeanor solicitation charge.
Gainey who has made four starts on the tour this season, including most recently the RSM Classic where he missed the cut, was due to take part in the final stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School which begins today.
The records show that Gainey was booked on 8 December and was released the following morning after posting bail of $500. In a press conference Sheriff Grady Judd stated:
"He's married. He told us he was here for a charity golf event and it was supposed to be in the next morning tee off. He didn't make it. He was a scratch."
Judd added, "We charged him with soliciting. He missed his tee time the next morning."
It’s not looking good for the journeyman pro. It is not clear what action the tour will take but we assume his sponsors will take action to distance themselves from the golfer.
