North East GC which has staged PGA events to close

Burgham Paar GC goes into administration

A North East golf course which has played host to PGA events and was part-designed by a former Ryder Cup captain has entered administration.

Burgham Park is located in Morpeth, Northumberland. It boasts panoramic views of Simonside Hills to the West and the coast to the East, while playing off the championship tees measures the course at 7,065 yards.

Graham Bushby and Steven Ross of RSM Restructuring Advisory were appointed joint administrators of Burgham Park Golf & Leisure Club Ltd.

The club, which has 300 members, remains a separate company. The golf course will continue to be maintained as the administrators work with professional advisers to maximise the returns to creditors.

Ross, a restructuring partner at RSM, said: "We have made a decision to close the clubhouse for the winter and we're hopeful that this position will quickly change.”

"We continue to work with our advisers to progress development opportunities for the site, which includes planning permission to build 50 high-quality holiday homes adjacent to the course."

Former Ryder Cup captain Mark James was part of the design team that developed the course in 1994.
