Ian Poulter will be playing The Open after coming T2 at a 36–hole qualifying competition at Woburn.
There were three places to be had for Royal Birkdale, and Ian Poulter made damn sure that one of them was his. He shot 70 and 68 to finish T2.
Also going to The Open will be Shiv Kapur and Toby Tree.
It has been an up–and–down year for Poults, that’s for sure. Coming back from injury, he just managed to keep his PGA Tour card because of a change in rules over medical exemptions.
He then went onto come second at The Players Championship, the so–called, fifth major. And now he’s going back to The Open, where he came second in 2008 when it was last hosted at Royal Birkdale.
He only made a single bogey today, he knows Royal Birkdale well. Could he be the surprise package? You just never know with Poults. But his gander is clearly back up....
