Ian Poulter goes low at the Firestone with a 62

To lead by one shot

Well, blow me down with the proverbial feather, but Ian James Poulter has just shot the lights out at the Firestone, going low with a 62 to lead by one shot on the opening day.

You have to say that Poults is a player who will keep you on your toes. He missed the cut at The Open by a mile, but just two weeks later he's back at it and absolutely tearing it up.

He was out for 30, with five birdies and no dropped shots, before turning in a back nine with three further birdies, and again not a single dropped shot. Bravo!

He's going to giving Thomas Bjorn sleepless nights at this rate. Hats off to Poulter for shooting such a fine round of golf. I was heading off to bed thinking that Kyle Stanley's seven under, later matched by Rickie Fowler, was going to be the  round of the day, but one IJP has put paid to that.
