How Cameron was outclassed on the golf course
Admits Barack Obama gave him a good basting
Words: John Dean
Prime Minister David Cameron has admitted he was outclassed on the golf course by Barack Obama when the pair recently played together at The Grove.
Number 10 aides said after the match that Mr. Cameron was happy to have "only lost one ball", and “thrilled” to par the first hole, which is a par 4 that plays 312 off the standard tees and is their stroke index 17, so not the greatest of tests.
THe PM has now admitted that his game is not up to President Obama's standard, telling LBC Radio:"I didn't disgrace myself! He's very good. I am not very good."
Cameron added: "Golf is one of those games where you can just have a terrible, terrible day and it really wasn't too bad. We had a... very good conversation, a very nice chat, it was a lovely course and I think the best I can say is I did all right."
The PM backed the ban on Muirfield golf club in Scotland hosting the Open after its members voted to continue to exclude women.
"My general rule is that sports clubs should be totally open to both sexes, and it's outdated not to do that, particularly if you think that you're up to hosting important championships," he said.
He played down suggestions that Britain's special relationship with the US could be downgraded if Donald Trump wins the White House. Not that would be an interested pairing.
