Host Lawrie through to second round

Tournament host Paul Lawrie got off to a great start at the inaugural Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Matchplay by defeating Romain Wattel from France 5&4 and proving he’ll be a fierce contender on home turf.

Lawrie has had a busy week surrounding his duties in the organisation of the tournament, but now the matches have started he can turn his sights fully onto the golf itself.

Lawrie said,

“The last couple of days, it has been mega busy, but I knew coming in that was all part of the deal. 

“But then I knew as soon as I got to my bed last night, that was me pretty much done and I was a normal player from this morning. 

“I'm looking forward to it. I'm enjoying it. I hit the ball nice today, so long may that continue.”
