Henrik Stenson claimed a one–stroke win at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday for his first victory since the 2016 Open.
He had birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th to take the lead, but then parred the last, sinking what would be his winning putt from three feet to defeat Ollie Schniederjans, a former USA Amatuer champion, by a single shot.
Stenson posted 64 to finish at 22-under-par 258 for his sixth PGA Tour victory. He had four days of impressive scoring, with his final day 64 added to two rounds of 66 and an opening round of 62.
"I don't know how many times I'm going to get as close to playing as well as I did at Troon,” Stenson, 41, said. "I'm just very pleased with how I closed out this week."
“It’s always good to beat the 24–year-olds. And the 34–year-olds, and sometimes the 46–year-olds.”
“It's certainly a good time to start firing,” he added. “We know the kind of damage you can do during the Playoffs when the points are up to four times the normal season, right, so if you get hot and keep on playing well, certainly a chance to challenge for the overall."
Schniederjans also shot 64 for 21–under, while Webb Simpson, finished four shots back in third place.
