European Trio get PGA special exemption

Who's heading for the big time?

European Tour players Thomas Pieters, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood have all been given Special Temporary Membership of the U.S. PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2016–17 season.

With a T5 finish at the WGC–Mexico Championship earlier this month, Pieters took his FedExCup points to 416, which was points than were picked up by 150th ranked player last season and making him eligible for the membership.

Thomas now has 441 non–member FedExCup points after his T30 finish at the WGC–Dell Match Play.

Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood became eligible after top–10 finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier in the month.

The special memberships mean that the three players are eligible for unlimited sponsor exemptions for the rest of the season.

According to Reuters, The PGA Tour now has 88 international members from 23 countries outside the United States.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts upon their European Tour schedules, but it is a proper leg up for these budding stars from the European Tour.
