Dustin Takes The WGC Bridgestone Invitational

Have we got ourselves a big four?

Jason Day capitulated late on to give Dustin Johnson the victory at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. As Day uncharacteristically missed short putts and kept wailing his ball in the bund off the tee, Johnson was solidly hitting fairways. Dustin will rise to number two in the world rankings, having won his last two events which just happened to be The U.S. Open and a WGC.

There has been a lot of talk about a big three, of Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day, and some talk of a big four adding Rickie Fowler, although at this point that appears to be a pipe dream. Instead we find ourselves with four players, Dustin, Rory, Jason, and Jordan who I think we can agree are better than the rest. In recent years we were so used to a dominant golfer in Tiger Woods that it seems alien to us that there are so many golfers in the mix. But Jordan excepted, the combination of being able to hit the ball silly long, and arrow straight seems to be one that can take you to the top of the game.
