Carinthia named Undiscovered Golf destination of the Year
And no, we hadn’t heard of it before either

Carinthia has been named Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year for 2017 in the annual IAGTO Awards. And no, we hadn’t heard of it before!
Golf travel writers from 36 countries selected it from a shortlist that also contained Cambodia, Cuba, Estonia, Iceland and Slovakia.
So where exactly is Carinthia? Well it is a southern Austrian region in the eastern Alps that encompasses Austria’s highest mountain, Grossglockner. It is characterized by alpine lakes and mountains, as well as medieval buildings like Hochosterwitz Castle.
Christian Kresse, Managing Director of the Carinthian Tourist Board: “I am delighted that Carinthia has won the international Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year award and I feel sure that we will now attract even more visitors with our unique Alpe-Adria Golf Card.”
It is extremely gratifying for the small golf destination, which has not only invested in expanding the golf courses and infrastructure in recent years, but also above all in cross-border activities.
Given Carinthia’s location on the border, the Alpe-Adria Golf Card gives visitors the chance to enjoy golf in Austria, Italy and Slovenia and experience three different cultures – all on one holiday. The Alpe-Adria Golf Card lets you enjoy golf in the Alps-Adriatic region all year round from your base in Carinthia.
A total of twelve courses in Carinthia provide ideal opportunities for perfect golf days with their scenic beauty, most featuring stunning views of the nearby mountains and one of the many lakes that are warm enough to swim in at up to 28 degrees in summer.
So there you go. Carinthia it is for our next golf caper.
