Brendan Steeles it out to banish Safeway demons
Emotional finale after last year's dramatic collapse

This time last year, Brendan Steele was literally sobbing into his beer keg after a back 9 collapse at the Safeway to give you nightmares. After leading wire-to-wire for 54 holes, Steele bogeyed five of the last seven holes and had to watch as Emiliano Grillo took the title in a play off with Kevin Na.
What a difference a year makes. Steele found himself in a similar position within a shot of the lead after a birdie on the 10th hole moved him to 16 under. Then he bogied 12 and must have been thinking "Not again!".
Steele promptly birdied the last three holes to capture his first PGA title since the 2011 Valero Texas Open. He wasn't shy in giving short game maestro Dave Peltz some serious love.
"I think my putting coming down the stretch was really the most important thing and definitely some wedge play," Steele said. "I've been working on some stuff with Dave Pelz that really helped me with the soft conditions taking spin off the ball and really controlling my numbers... you don't often get that chance in life to redeem yourself in the same way at the same place."
