Words: GolfPunk
A prestigious Pro-Am tournament over three of Scotland’s finest links courses has sold out four months before it tees off.
The annual Highland Golf Links 54-hole Pro-Am sponsored by Blue Group will be held from 1-3 October with its biggest ever field.
Some 328 players in 82 teams from across the UK, as well as from Sweden, Germany, Holland and the USA, will compete at Castle Stuart Golf Links, The Nairn Golf Club and the Championship Course at Royal Dornoch Golf Club.
The three courses, as well as luxury hotels Culloden House and the Kingsmills in Inverness, are part of Highland Golf Links (HGL) which promotes play and stay golfing breaks in the north of Scotland.
The event, which is part of the Tartan Tour and is being sponsored for the third successive year by Blue Group, started in 2012 and entries have since grown by 46 per cent.
The three-day event also generates about £200,000 for the Highland economy in late-season business.
Event organiser Fraser Cromarty, CEO at The Nairn Golf Club and chairman of HGL, said: “Once again interest in the Pro-Am has been phenomenal as demonstrated by reaching capacity so far in advance.
“The event has grown steadily over seven years and continues to set records. Its reputation as a great end-of-season event at three of the best links courses around makes it a must-play event for golfers from near and far.”
Blue Group director Austin Carey said: “Once again, the HGL Pro-Am has proven to be a fantastic draw and we are delighted our association with this renowned tournament has been so successful.”
Pro-Am competitors play on successive days at Castle Stuart, home of the Scottish Open on four occasions in the last eight years; Royal Dornoch, which hosts the Boys Home Internationals from 7-9 August; and Nairn, which has staged both the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup and last year held the 2017 Boys Amateur Championship.
The event, which currently boasts a professional prize fund of more than £50,000, is open to teams of four players from anywhere in the world consisting of three amateurs (ladies or gentlemen) plus a professional of their choice. Teams that do not include a pro are allocated a leading player from the PGA Scotland Order of Merit.
