Best and Worst from Day 3 at the Players
TPC Sawgrass Strikes Back
Words: Daniel Owen
It all went a bit dolally last night at the Players Championship. The perfect storm of high temperatures, strong winds, and low humidity turned the greens slicker than Rick. Jason Day leads after shooting a 73. Only 13 players shot better scores than him around the Stadium Course.
"I want to say this was the toughest day I've ever had to play in my life, I think," said Day aftet the round.
Ken Duke shot a 65. Russell Knox (we'll come back to him later) had this to say about that score.
"I looked up on the board and saw Ken Duke shot 65, and was like, ‘What?’ That's the best round of golf ever, probably"
Here are ten of the best and worst shots from last night's play.
Russell Knox had a bit of a meltdown. He reached the 17th tee at a very credible one over for his round, and was sitting in the top ten. He then did this...
“I don’t know what to say,” he said. I mean, that was an epic fail. It’s just difficult. You’re so nervous. I mean, you have thousands of people laughing at you. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling. After I was walking through the tunnel, I was like, ‘Whoa, that was to avoid a 10!"
17 was kinder to Jerry Kelly...
Gary Woodland wasn't sure how to react after his tee shot at 17. We think he needs to cheer up a bit.
Hell of a bunker shot from the leader.
Ken Duke made five straight birdies!!!
Ryan Palmer holes out for an eagle on 11. Then he went for a little trot...
William McGirt hit the fairway wood of his life here. This is ridiculously good.
Jason Day made a four putt on the sixth. It was almost five!
Poor Will Wilcox. What a difference a day makes...
This just about sums up the day's golf. Sergio hits four fairly decent putts here. Problem is they were all on the same hole. Whoops.
