A Halford’s boss gets jail for DUI in golf buggy

At holiday resort in Norway

A HALFORDS boss has been given a two–week jail sentence and a £12,000 fine after drink-driving a golf buggy at a holiday resort in Norway.

He was also banned from driving in the country for two years.

Chief financial officer Jonny Mason was caught by police whilst driving the buggy at less than six miles per hour from a beach bar to his apartment on private land at Kragero resort.

In Norway, there is an almost zero drink-driving tolerance policy and it is also illegal to drink-drive on private land.

Mr Mason will voluntarily return to serve the sentence, and wants to serve his time under curfew at a stated address, which in Norway can equate to a jail sentence.

A Halfords spokesman said: "Halfords can confirm that its finance director, Jonny Mason, has been convicted of a drink driving offence in Norway.

"The incident took place while driving a golf cart at less than six miles per hour on a cart path at a private golf resort.

"Jonny was unaware that this was an offence under Norwegian law and did not contest the charge against him."

So, we've all been warned. Norway will properly throw the book at you if you DUI. And we mean properly!
