G-Rip launch St 1
A straight grip for straight shooting
Words: John Dean
Innovative grip company G-Rip have launched the latest in their line of putter grips. The new ST-1 grip offers a straight taper style combined with the current trend for oversized designs, resulting in a grip that sits comfortably in the hands, without losing any feel or feedback from the putting action.
Featuring the same composite technology found in the G-RIP MP 1, the G-RIP ST-1 is a lightweight, oversize grip, which features a straight taper design.
Weighing 51g, the lightweight G-RIP ST-1 maintains the same thickness throughout its length, ensuring that golfers experience the same comfortable feel wherever they place their hands on the grip.
After testing a wide range of straight and reverse taper grips using a SAM Putting Lab, G-Rip discovered that grips that are too big take away feel – an essential element for successful putting – while grips that are too small encourage the bottom hand to move too quickly through the stroke, leading to the dreaded yips.
The result of all that research led to the creation of the ST-1, which offers the optimal size grip for all-round improved putting performance. Its consistent thickness helps keep the bottom hand quiet at impact, stopping the flicking movement that leads to an inconsistent putting stroke, while the generous circumference of the grip prevents too much grip pressure being exerted, which leads to a less tense grip and a smoother putting stroke.
The ST 1 grip has a soft, tacky polymer textured surface that feels comfortable in the hands and performs well in all weather conditions, while an EVA under-listing compound has shock dampening properties.
G-RIP ST-1 putter grips are available in a choice of eye-catching two-tone colours: Black/Red; Black/Blue; Black/Orange; Black/Lime Green.
The G-RIP ST-1 has an RRP of £19.95.
