LIV GOLF UK: DEFENDING CHAMP CAM SMITH SETS SIGHTS ON TITLE DEFENCE AT THE JCB

We hear from Ripper GC Captain Cameron Smith as he prepares to compete at JCB Golf & Country Club from 26-28 July.

Q: You're back in the UK to defend your LIV Golf UK individual title after an impressive performance last year. How are you feeling coming into the week?

CAMERON SMITH: It's one we're all looking forward to. We're at a different course this year [at JCB Golf & Country Club], so a different challenge.

I always love the UK, I love the UK fans. It’s the home of the Majesticks [GC], but I think that Ripper [GC] are the second best there. So yeah, I’m looking forward to getting back there.

Q: You've had amazing success in the UK with LIV Golf and notably winning The Open Championship in 2022. What is it that appeals to you about playing in the UK and what do you attribute your success to?

CAMERON SMITH: I think I've learned to love it over the years. It’s not a type of golf I really loved at the start, but it's where golf begun and it's a hard place not to love, and I always wanted to play really well there. So it's been a lot of work. But I think it's just the love for the game over there - it's so pure and it’s how golf is meant to be. I can't wait to get back.

Q: The UK has so many passionate and loyal golf fans, how do you expect the crowds to contribute to LIV Golf UK by JCB?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think they'll be great. They were great there last year. I think we're probably in a better spot this year geographically and hopefully the fans can get out. They were great to Ripper last year, so hopefully they can get back out there, and we can give them a team win.
