Birthday boy Brooks Koepka, turning 34, birdied the first five of seven holes, teeing off the third, in the hot and humid conditions.

When asked if warmer climes improved his performance (having won twice in Saudi Arabia in 2022 and again in 2023 in Jeddah), Koepka replied: “I really don’t care where it is, as long as I win.”
Last week's winner in Adelaide, Brandon Steele, carded a 68 to sit three strokes back.
Ancer’s Fireballs and Koepka’s Smash sit at -11 with Range Goats, Cleeks and Stinger at -10. Crushers GC made an unusually cold start but remain well ahead in the season's team standings.
