Driving Range: Mazda Hard-Top MX-5
Just you, your golf clubs and an exceptionally cool ride...
Words: Tim Southwell
Not only does this car look the absolute dog's whatchamecallits, it's a bit of a bargain. Prices for this hard top convertible (which we are advised has a very high tech new roof system going for it) range from less than £19,000 to around £23,000, which means the MX-5 costs about the same as the Mini Roadster, and less than the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 coupe twins.
Every iteration of the car comes with LED headlights, alloy wheels, a USB socket, air-con, leather-trimmed steering wheel and four airbags, while the fancier versions get heated leather seats, sat-nav, rear parking sensors and a touchscreen infotainment system for watching Caddy Shack on after a hard day's foozling.
It looks reminiscent of a kind of Porsche 911/classic Bond Aston Martin. There might not be masses of room in the boot for anyone else's clubs, but who cares when you see the faces of your pals when rock up to the golf club and park in full view?
Lovely stuff.
