Gemma Dryburgh won for a second consecutive week on the Rose Ladies Series at Royal St. George’s in Kent. The 27-year-old from Scotland shot an excellent one-under-par 69 to win by a shot from tour stars Georgia Hall and Charley Hull.
The event is the first female professional tournament to be played over the famous links course which was due to host the Open next week. Dryburgh also won last week at The Buckinghamshire and now tops the Rose Ladies Series standings.
The top three all came from the same group which teed off just after midday with winds gusting up to 30 mph. With two holes to play it looked like Hull was set to win her second Rose Series event but bogies at the last two holes saw her slip back and hand the win to Dryburgh.
“I’m delighted to be the first ever female professional to win a tournament at Royal St. George’s in their first ever ladies’ professional event,” said Dryburgh after picking up her winner’s cheque for £5,000.
“It was great playing with Georgia and Charley and we were neck and neck all day and feeding off each other, so it certainly felt like a big event and it was very special.”
The series now moves to the JCB Country Club in Staffordshire next week and will conclude with a three-course grand final in Surrey beginning on 5th August.
Rose Ladies Series standings
1. Gemma Dryburgh 297.5 points
2. Charley Hull 281.67
3. Elizabeth Young 195.83
4. Annabel Dimmock 166.67
5. Georgia Hall 160
